The San Francisco 49ers will open its 2007 NFL regular season against an NFC West foe when they play the Arizona Cardinals in a nationally-televised home game on Monday Night Football on September 10.
The slate includes four nationally-televised games against the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The games against Arizona and Seattle will be Monday Night Football games on ESPN. There is potential for the 49ers to play more nationally-televised games due to the NFL's flexible schedule.
In addition to the 49ers usual NFC West opponents, Arizona, St. Louis and Seattle, San Francisco will play games against the AFC North and NFC South based on the NFL’s rotating schedule. Four of the 49ers 2007 season opponents were playoff contenders in 2006.
The schedule also consists of two at-large games that are determined based on records from the previous season. By virtue of where the 49ers finished in the NFC West last season, they will play on the road against the NFC East New York Giants and at home against the NFC North Minnesota Vikings. For the first time since 2003, the Club will face the AFC North Division with games against Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and the 2006 Division Champion Baltimore Ravens. The October 7 matchup against Baltimore marks the first time 49ers Head Coach Mike Nolan will face the Ravens since he served as the team’s defensive coordinator in 2004. The 49ers play three home games before the BYE weekend on October 14 and end the season with three of four December games played at home, two on national television.
