Continuing the countdown of the best 49er draft day picks, whether marquis college star, or diamond in the rough. Number eight is probably the most contraversial player in team history, but definitely one of the most talented.
Previously: Number 10 - Y.A. Tittle , Number 9 - Ronnie Lott
Number 8:
1996 - Round - 3 - WR - Terrell Owens, Tennessee-Chattanooga
Probably best known for sideline tirades and outspoken press clipping, Terrell Owens is ironically putting together a hall -of- fame calibur career, at least statistically. After starting his career in the shadow of one of the greatest players ever at any position, Owens became the 49ers offensive center-piece after Jerry Rice's departure in 2000. With several 1000 yard receiving seasons and multiple Pro Bowl appearances, Owens would help lead a revival and quick return to playoff form for the team in 2001 and 02 following the fall from grace in 1999 and 2000. However, when the 49ers again began to slide downhill in 2003, Owens forced a trade. Owens moved on to Philadelphia followed by the Dallas Cowboys, where he is set to enter his 12th NFL season. From offensive star to offensive star, from celebrating with pom-poms to signing a touchdown ball, "T.O." remains one of the most skilled and tough players in the game. Still, his most productive seasons were undoubtedly the eight that he spent in San Francisco when his focus and abilities were both in peak form.
