According to the Sacramento Bee, the injury that sidelined Melvin Oliver on Tuesday is worse than originally anticipated. It turned out to be a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Surgery hasn't been scheduled yet, but Oliver is expected to miss the 2007 season.
In anticipation of this news, the 49ers signed free agent defensive lineman Sam Rayburn, who spent 2006 with the Philadelphia Eagles.
