The 49ers have several players up for awards on NFL.com this week. CB Nate Clements is a candidate for the GMC Defensive Player of the Week, RB Frank Gore is a nominee for the FedEx ground award and LB Patrick Willis is up for the second week in a row for the Rookie of the Week honors. Clements joins Bears LB Lance Briggs, Patriots LB Rosevelt Colvin, Colts DB Bob Sanders, and Vikings S Darren Sharper as finalists for the GMC Defensive Player of the Week award. Clements made six tackles (six solo), had one sack, and forced a fumble in the 49ers’ 17-16 victory over the St. Louis Rams. Clements’ third-quarter forced fumble that went through the end zone resulting in a touchback thwarted a Rams’ drive and began the 49ers’ third-quarter touchdown drive. Fans can vote for one of these five players on NFL.com beginning immediately following Monday Night Football and ending on Thursday at 4:00 pm EST to determine the GMC Defensive Player of the Week. The winner will be announced Thursday evening on NFL.com.
