Well, here was what I predicted as an outcome for the Niners game against the Giants. In red, I have included the actual outcome in each area. Not to toot my own horn, but I hope this stands as a wake up call out there for the overly optimistic fans, and wishfully, the coaching staff who keep trying to downplay the problems facing our boys.
NY 28 - SF 10.
NY 33 - SF 15.
Dilfer 17 - 39 for 204 yards, 1 TD and 3 INT's - does just enough to keep Smith on the bench next week too.
Dilfer 23 - 38 for 202 yards, 2 TD's and 2 INT's - did enough to probably start again, but Smith has been announced as the starter. Although alot of these yards were after the game was out of reach. Heck, at least they threw the ball for a change!
Gore 23 carries for 61 yards - not his fault, but never breaks one, and too often finds the back of the line as a brick wall.
Gore 14 carries for 88 yards - did rip off a couple long ones including a 24 yarder, which made his numbers look a bit better. Gotta get Frank some help in the air though!
No receiver with more than 3 catches, or 40 yards receiving. Davis catches a short TD and is good for an unnecessarily self-promoting celebration.
Arnaz Battle did grab 6 for 57 yards. He also was the self-promoting celebrator when they were still way behind. Do it on a semi-consistant basis and we'll talk. Until then, try to look like you've been there before. FYI - "Click-clack" Davis had 4 catches for a whopping 22 yards.
Defense - 3 sacks, 1 INT
Defense - 1 sack, 1 INT - It's like asking the poor little dutch boy to plug his fingers in the Hoover Dam waiting for this offense to do anything. I applaud the defense's resolve. It must feel like trying to brush back the ocean with a broom.
This week:
Reggie Bush, Drew Brees and the suddenly resurgent New Orleans Saints come to town. I will have my thoughts for this one on Saturday.
